Bringing Authentic Asian Fusion Cuisine to Central Oregon

Chao Lay is the latest Restaurant Concept to be opened in Bend by Chip & Prang Rothenberger.  Their previous and current concepts include the  Incred-A-Bowl Food Truck and ThAiPAS Restaurant, located at The Grove Market Hall in NW Crossing. Chao Lay will combine Prang’s lifetime love of cooking fresh homemade Thai food with her passion to create and develop new dishes that you won’t find anywhere else. 

Prang was born on a small island located at the furthestS Southern point  of Thailand called Koh Lipe.  The Chao Lay people are a 7,000 year old migrant Indonesian Fishing Tribe. In Thai, Chao Lay translates to “People of the Sea”, and are often referred to as “Sea Gypsy’s”. Her father is 100% Chaolay and was born on the island, while her mother is from the most Northern part of Thailand. So here flavor profiles are widely diverse.

Chip & Prang noticed that there was a lack of any kind of quality Asian Food on the East Side of Bend. Chao Lay will combine the amazing flavor profiles that Prang has developed at both of her restaurants, with those of some of her Chef’s that bring in their own style and influence, all with an Asian Flair. The Menu will include items such as Lobster Curry Sandwiches, Crispy Pork Belly, Rice Chip Poke Bowls and Korean Rice Bowls, just to name a few. Chao Lay  builds on familiar Thai offerings, including Prang’s Famous Fried Chicken, Fish, Curry Dishes & Soups, but there will be no Pad Thai on this menu.  Chip and Prang have a proud tradition of operating great restaurants over many years. This long standing excellence is evident in everything that is served.

The team of Chao Lay will include some of the folks that have been working with Chip and Prang for many years, but they are excited to bring on new people with new perspectives. The only thing they demand is a commitment to excellence in the highest quality of food and customer service.
